Lake Forest Community High School Names Joe Pettinger, Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
LAKE FOREST, IL — Lake Forest Community High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Pettinger as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, effective July 1, 2025. In addition to leading the Scouts on the court, Coach Pettinger will join the LFHS Wellness Department as a teacher.
Pettinger brings nearly a decade of coaching and leadership experience from Marist High School, where he served as Assistant Varsity Coach and Head Sophomore Coach for the Boys Basketball program. Known for his strategic mind and ability to build strong, positive relationships with student-athletes, Pettinger has helped lead his teams to more than 80 victories over the past three seasons.
“I’m excited to dive into working with our student-athletes and to build meaningful connections throughout the Lake Forest community,” said Pettinger. “Teaching and coaching at Lake Forest High School is a tremendous opportunity. I was drawn to the school’s tradition of excellence, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
Beyond the court, Pettinger has served as PE Department Chair and Dean of Students at Marist. He holds a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Communication Studies from Marquette University.
Pettinger lives in Chicago. When he's not in the gym, he enjoys working out, playing with his two dogs, and staying active.
